Aug. 1--The Winston-Salem Journal said yesterday that Jon Witherspoon will retire as publisher on May 31, 2007, after 13 1/2 years in the position.
Media General Inc., the parent company of the Journal, named Michael Miller as Witherspoon's successor. Miller has served for seven years as the publisher of the Morning News of Florence, S.C., another Media General newspaper.
