Did you know there was such a hobby or profession as studying flags? Seriously, the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary defines Vexilology as "the study of flags." There's even such a place as the The Flag Institute. Located in the UK it's the world's leading research and documentation center for flags and flag information. It may sound like an oddball career choice or pastime, but people devote years of their life to pieces of cloth attached to a mast. I appreciate some flags, including the Stars and Stripes, pirate flags and checkered flags because they look cool and adored and are instantly recognizable.
