Frederic Fekkai-iconic hairstylist, international charmer, purveyor of the shampoos and conditioners found in the chicest showers in town-is remarkably calm considering all he's got going on at the moment. In one week he will open the doors to a staggering 10,000-square-foot salon atop one of Manhattan's most storied addresses. He's planning another salon downtown, in SoHo, which he hopes to open later this year. He's decorating a new Fifth Avenue apartment. And by the time this article comes out, he will have just wed the beautiful blonde fashion PR consultant Shirin von Wulffen in a ceremony outside Berlin. Of course there are also his other salons-on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, at the Brazilian Court in Palm Beach-and the matter of getting his twelve-year-old, Alexander, to school on time. So he's busy. But he's happy, and it shows.
Since moving to New York from Paris in 1982, Fekkai has skipped up and down Manhattan's salon row, most recently occupying five gigantic floors in the Chanel building on Fifty-seventh Street-
officially the world's largest salon. "It became too big. It killed the ambience," says Fekkai. "This is going to be a whole different attitude." Indeed, now he's surrounded by historic, landmarked Lalique windows on the top floor of the boutique department store Henri Bendel, several blocks away on Fifth Avenue.
