The daughters of alcoholics are more likely to have spouses who are alcoholics, according to an article published in a recent American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. But, say researchers from the University of California at San Diego, the sons of alcoholics do not display the same tendency.

The researchers studied a sample of 708 couples, who were the parents of male students randomly selected on campus. The students completed a questionnaire on their demography, alcohol and other drug use, and mental health problems; the questionnaire asked the students for similar information on their first and second degree relatives.
