ROLLS-ROYCE's marine activities led the way in terms of the engineering giant's revenue growth in the first half of 2006, writes Hugh O'Mahony.
The aerospace, marine and energy group posted half year revenues of GBP3.39bn ($6.3bn), up 6% on the first half of 2005, with underlying profit before financing costs up 12%, at GBP345m.
While dwarfed by a civil aerospace half year turnover of GBP1.78bn (against GBP1.68bn in the half year to June 30, 2005), marine represented the group's fastest growing business in revenue terms.
Rolls-Royce Marine posted turnover for the half year of GBP621m, up 27% on the GBP488m recorded in the equivalent half of 2005.
Profit before finance costs for marine business amounted to GBP50m, compared with GBP39m in the first half of 2005.
