FURTHER development of ConocoPhillips' J Block resources in the UK central North Sea is on the cards after its latest well, Shoei, found more reserves than expected, writes Martyn Wingrove .
According to partner BG Group, the US oil major has found gas and condensate reserves with its latest exploration well in block 30'6, close to the Judy production platform, using jack-up rig Ensco 102.
It is thought the Shoei well and appraisal sidetrack has found enough reserves to set up a fast track development that may involve a new wellhead platform or subsea wells tied back to Judy.
'Of our four discoveries this year, Calloway and Shoei are in the J Block,' said BG Group's chief executive Frank Chapman.
'Shoei is now completed and it is a lot bigger than when we sanctioned the exploration well. There is still a lot of work to do but Shoei could be rapidly developed if the appraisal well is successful.'
Ensco 102 drilled the vertical exploration well and sidetracked it in July. On the Judy platform, jack-up rig Maersk Inspirer drilled a production well on Judy South and then on the Judy central area.
