TOKYO, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - The number of vehicles manufactured overseas by Japanese automakers surpassed the domestic figure for the first time ever in fiscal year 2005, according to data released Monday by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).
Overseas production grew 10.6 per cent on the year to 10.92 million units, while domestic output reached 10.89 million units. This also marked the first time that overseas output has surpassed the 10 million mark on a fiscal-year basis.
Local production in such regions as Asia and North America posted year-on-year increases. Production in Asia outside of Japan jumped 15.2 per cent to 4.17 million units, while output in North America grew 5 per cent to 4.09 million units.
