TOKYO, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Japan's gross domestic product (GDP) for the April-June quarter grew 0.4 per cent from the previous quarter in real terms, or 1.7 per cent a year, according to the average of 14 private research institutions' estimates released by Monday.
The economy continued to grow, helped by solid private-sector demand, but personal spending slowed slightly, these institutions say. As a result, most of them see April-June GDP growth as having come in below the preceding quarter's annualized 3.1 per cent.
The Cabinet Office will announce preliminary GDP figures Aug. 11.
In nominal terms, the economy is seen as having grown 0.6 per cent from the previous quarter, or 2.4 per cent a year, exceeding the annualized 1.6 per cent for the January-March period. Many of the research institutions credit rising prices of fresh vegetables and construction materials for the higher rate this time around.
