ISLAMABAD, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Pakistan will try to keep Afghanistan out of the South Asia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA) under which trade is conducted among member states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
A widely-circulated Pakistani newspaper, quoting diplomatic sources, said the decision not to include Afghanistan in SAFTA was taken in the wake of the exchange of allegations and ongoing tension between the two countries.
Afghanistan in recent months has been accusing Pakistan of harbouring Taliban and sending them into this landlocked country to destabilise the government by carrying out terrorist attacks. Pakistan rejects the allegations as baseless and says that it has deployed 80,000 troops to stop the infiltration.
Quoting the official, the report said Pakistan was also wary of Kabul's 'pro-India' policy and believed it was accusing Pakistan on behest of India. The decision, he said, had been taken in that backdrop.
