SEOUL, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - NHN Corp., South Korea's top Internet company by market value, said Tuesday its second-quarter net profit more than doubled from a year earlier, boosted by an increase in online advertising revenues.
Net income rose to 32.43 billion won (US$33.92 million) in the April-June period, up 120.4 per cent from a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing. Sales jumped 59.9 per cent to 132.9 1 billion won, with operating profit surging 65.1 per cent to 50.61 billion won.
Compared with three months earlier, however, net profit declined 7.7 per cent, the company said.
The earnings report was unveiled before the local stock market opened. Shares of NHN, which operates the nation's most visited Internet portal Naver.com and No. 1 online game portal Hangame.com, was trading at 105,800 won, down 0.38 per cent from the prior session on Seoul's main bourse as of 9:09 a.m.
