JAKARTA, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Indonesia's clove cigarette production in the first semester of 2006 reached 94.8 billion pcs, down about 12 per cent compared to the 108.3 billion in last year's same period, the Indonesian Cigarette Producers Association (GAPPRI) said here on Monday.
"The drop was caused by a decline in the people's purchasing power and the high production cost," Director and Corporate Secretary of PT. Gudang Garam Tbk, Heru Budiman, said.
According to him, the development of the cigarette bussiness is always related to the people's purchasing power. In the meantime, production cost also constantly increased, making it difficult to meet sales targets.
