THANK GOD for SBS and World Movies. With the demise of arthouses, more and more have we come to rely on DVD and above all television to see important European films. I must confess that when I first came across references to French director Bertrand Tavernier's latest film Holy Lola (2004), my instinct was to check if there was a DVD. Nothing--at least not for international audiences. Holy Lola had only lasted a few weeks on its first release in Paris and clearly the distributors had lost confidence in the film. So I resigned myself to having to view the film unsubtitled, translated by one of my French-speaking friends.
But I'd forgotten about SBS and World ...
