A vaccine which could prevent women getting cervical cancer could be available within months, the manufactures said yesterday.
Gardasil, which works against the sexually transmitted human papilloma virus linked to cervical and other cancers, has passed a major licensing hurdle, its makers said.
The vaccine, to be marketed by Sanofi Pasteur MSD, has now received a positive opinion from the European Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP). The company said the landmark could see the European Commission grant full permission to market Gardasil within just two months.
