TOUR de France director Christian Prudhomme has warned that the ''noose is tightening'' on drugs cheats after the Phonak team announced this year's winner Floyd Landis has tested positive for excessive levels of testosterone.

Yesterday's announcement stunned the cycling world, and reopens the wound which has afflicted cycling for several years.

Before the start of this tour several leading riders, including pre-race favourites Jan Ullrich of T-Mobile and Ivan Basso of Team CSC, were withdrawn after being linked to a Madrid doping ring, and Prudhomme has vowed to fight on.
