With three of its lacrosse team members facing charges of rape, sexual assault and kidnapping, Duke University NC will reinstate its team this fall with a new code of conduct and more supervision, said Duke president Richard Brodhead.
Under Brodhead's guidance, the team wrote a mission statement and team standard. In the mission statement, players pledge to "demonstrate the virtues of compassion, sensitivity and respect," becoming "student-athletes of integrity who will serve as positive members of the school community and the greater society." The team standard prohibits harassment, underage drinking, hazing and other offenses and outlines minimum penalties for each.
