PHILOSOPHY 
 
   I should be deciding whether 
   to put up a fence at the end 
   of the carport to hide the hanging 
   laundry, but I'm reading 
   this introduction to philosophy, 
   not original works, but a primer 
   on issues great minds explored. 
 
   What can we know? What is 
   the nature of good and evil? 
   Yet the mind, relentless, 
   wanders back and forth 
   between these dizzying 
   notions and the cost 
   per linear foot of lumber
