The University of Wisconsin-Madison recently settled a sex bias case filed by its top lawyer for $90,000, according to case documents.
Dr. Melany S. Newby, vice chancellor for legal and executive affairs, said in her April claim that the school had not raised her salary since 1999, although all of her fellow male vice chancellors had received several large raises. Her claim noted that the men received pay adjustments of between 15 and 25% between 2000 and 2004, while Newby received only the small increases it gave to all UW employees.
