Founded in 1883, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts is one of the larger museums in the Midwest. With the opening last month of a wing designed by Michael Graves and Associates of Princeton, New Jersey, the museum has increased its gallery space by 40 percent. The Target Wing is named for the retail company that provided more than $10 million toward the $100 million campaign for the new building, the renovation of parts of the existing museum, and an endowment for acquisitions of artworks. The new three-story building houses thirty-four galleries, art storage space, offices, conservation laboratories, a classroom, a library, visitor services, and a large space for special exhibitions.
