(Ranked by 3-Year Average ROE)
Who says small can't be powerful? U.S. Banker's annual performance ranking of the top 200 publicly traded community banks proves that tiny packages can pack a huge wallop.
It's no surprise, however, that the top three banks were in the fast-growing states of California, Florida and Nevada: Temecula Valley Bancorp, Florida Community Banks and Silver State Bancorp, respectively. No. 4 Smithtown Bancorp is based in Long Island, NY, and No. 5 Severn Bancorp is based in Annapolis, MD. The five banks had three-year average ROEs ranging from 29.39 to 22.86-outstanding by any measure.
The largest bank in the ranking, $997.6 million-asset Horizon Financial Corp., had a three-year average ROE of 11.91, while the smallest bank, $550.29 million-asset Coast Financial Holdings, had an ROE of -2.56.
