I have read and reread "Salt Solutions?" by Steve Pearce (March 2006 issue) in an attempt to comprehend the "technology" of extracting chlorine from salts in pools.
Pearce writes, "In essence, it converts the pool water into mineral spa water, thus reducing skin, ear and eye irritation." What is in mineral spa water? As far as chemistry is concerned, water exists in a pure state as [H.sub.2]O (triple distilled in quartz is as close to this state as anyone can come, or about 300,000 ohms). It is not conductive and cannot become radioactive.
I would also like to know how one converts NaCl, existing in an ionic state (Na+ + Cl-) as does water, H++OH- without affecting the water's other ions and without converting H20 into elemental oxygen and hydrogen. I suspect that water is being converted into oxygen and hydrogen, then the hydrogen is dumped while the oxygen is retained in the water to create oxidation.
