According to an international media survey, 79 percent of experts quoted in the news media around the world are men while a mere 21 percent are women.

For the third year, the Global Media Monitoring Project analyzed television, radio and newspaper coverage on one day in 76 countries around the world. The data-gathering resulted in more than 13,000 articles being reviewed by hundreds of volunteer monitors.

A mere 25 percent of all newsmakers--reporters and interviewees combined--were women, an increase from 1995, when it was 17 percent.
