CHIEFS coaches used to let the sloppy workout habits of DT Ryan Sims slide, but coordinator Gunther Cunningham and line coach Tim Krumrie now are calling out Sims for his misdeeds.... The RAVIENS acquired SS Gerome Sapp from the Colts, and he could start. Sapp won't make a lot of plays on the ball, but he has the ability to play like an extra linebacker against the run.... BILLS QB Craig Nall's knowledge and execution of the offense have improved after he initially struggled picking up the system. Nall has a shot at starting, but J.P. Losman and Kelly Holcomb had better overall spring showings.... The STEALERS like new FS Ryan Clark because he is accustomed to complementing a safety who roams the field. He worked with Sean Taylor in Washington and now will team up with Trey Polamalu. Clark is not as physical as predecessor Chris Hope but has better speed.... Look for DL Darrell Reid to contribute more to the COLTS' rotation. He is strong enough to play tackle and quick enough to move outside to end.... QB Jake Plummet wants the BRONCOS to make more big plays in the passing game. For that to happen, WR Javon Walker needs to be healthy, rookie TE Tony Scheffler has to show he can separate from linebackers on deep seam routes and WR Ashley Lelle needs to stop pouting and play up to his ability.... At the end of last season, CB Reynaldo Hill asked the TITANS for tapes of elite CBs Champ Bailey, Samari Rolle, DeAngelo Hall and Shawn Springs so he could observe how they break on the ball. Hill has added some of their techniques to his game. Hill is getting out of his breaks better after having offseason surgery to repair a sports hernia.... As a rookie, DOLPHINS DE Matt Roth tried to get by on intensity and tended to plow straight into blockers. Roth isn't strong enough to do that at this level, and his short arms make it hard for him to play with leverage. This offseason, Roth has focused on using his speed and attacking linemen from different angles to get them off-balance ... BENGALS rookie CB Johnathan Joseph has great speed and ball skills, and he's soaking up the nuances of the game. He's a candidate to be the nickel back.... Because the strength of the PATRIOTS' defense is the quality and depth of the line, some feel they would be better off with the 4-3 as their base system. But Bill Bellchick still believes in the 3-4 because it offers greater flexibility on third down and allows fewer big running plays.... BROWNS rookie OLB Kameden Wimbley showed a sensational burst off the snap at minicamp. The coaches think Wimbley, a college end, has ideal instincts and skills for playing the run and dropping into coverage.... Look for CB Lewis Sanders, entering his second year with the TEXANS, to provide quality depth. He has shown a knack for getting to the ball and breaking up plays during offseason workouts.... The CHARGERS need LT Roman Oben to return to health after two foot ...
