ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

RF Shawn Green is having success shortening his stroke and taking pitches up the middle or the other way. The challenge for him now is to incorporate power back into his swing. When he tries to do that, his swing sometimes gets too long and his average drops. Finding the fight balance has become an ongoing process.... OF Jeff DaVanon has a good eye at the plate and does a nice job of working the count in his limited at-bats. DaVanon, 32, brings energy to the lineup. He's still a little stiff on defense, but he seems more comfortable in left field this season and the organization is committed to using him there.--Steve Gilbert

PROSPECT: Two Class AA Tulsa teammates, SS Troy Tulowitzki and 3B Ian Stewart, have gotten more attention, but C Chris Iannetta may progress faster than either, Iannetta, who played in the 2005 Futures Game, batted .321 with 11 homers and 26 RBIs in his first 44 games and held his own defensively. His play earned him a call-up to Class AAA Colorado Springs.--Thomas Harding

Cesar Izturis, a Gold Glove shortstop given two days to prepare for a new position, made a flawless debut at third base in his return from elbow surgery. Izturis was immediately expected to become an everyday player again because of the need to replace Bill Mueller, whose career is in jeopardy because of deteriorating knees.... Manager Grady Little says SS Rafael Furcal was more effective ...
