THE MAIN EVENT
1 Get your kicks now
Imagine a Final Four composed of North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky and UCLA. Think that might be a tough ticket? Think a few people might want to watch?
That's where we're headed in the 2006 World Cup.
If you missed the early rounds of the world's greatest sporting event, you need to start watching now, with the quarterfinals commencing this weekend. You will not see a country the size of Poughkeepsie trying to avoid losing, 6-0, to one of the world's heavyweights. You'll see a lot of the countries with the greatest World Cup histories going, shall we say, toe to toe.
You'll also see the most passionate fans in all of sports, unmatched by Cameron Crazies or Bleacher Bums. The folks who attend World Cup games sweat and hyperventilate along with their teams, sing and shout themselves to exhaustion.
Host Germany has been ridiculously good in winning its first four games, with striking duo Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski putting in seven goals combined and their team outscoring opponents, 10-2. Germany will play Argentina, led by forward Hernan Crespo, in a game that will be good enough to be a final.
