Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of fibrocystic breast disease, and 80%-90% of Americans have some degree of this deficiency ("Cryoablation Is Option for Breast Fibroadenomas," April 1, 2005, p. 11).
It is both easy and inexpensive to diagnose and treat this deficiency, and patients do remarkably better when the problem is addressed.
