HONIARA, July 3 Asia Pulse - The cash strapped nation of Nauru is happy to connect again with the outside world after successfully acquiring a new plane.
The Nauruan government secured funding from the Taiwanese government to buy its new plane.
Nauru's Finance Minister David Adeang said the decision to buy the plane was based on the reluctance of major international carriers to service Nauru due to high travel costs.
"When we put the matter to parliament one and half weeks ago, there was no debate on it as such and I think its reflecting the wishes of the people that we needed an airline," Mr Adeang said.
"In such a small place as Nauru you will find that not many people want to provide air services to Nauru because there is little money in it."
