SEOUL, July 3 Asia Pulse - Recent moves by South Korea's steelmakers to lift product prices, led by the world's fifth-largest steelmaker POSCO (KSE:005490), have raised concern over increasing raw material costs in major industries, industry sources said Sunday.
Shortly after POSCO's announcement of a price hike last week, the local sector's No. 2 player Hyundai Steel Co. raised the price of hot-rolled coils from mini mills by 30,000 won (US$31.62) per ton to 510,000 won, effective in July.
Manufacturers of cold-rolled steel and steel pipes, which rely on hot-rolled coils for their products, are about to lift prices as well, they said.
Hyundai Hysco Co., a steelmaking unit of Hyundai Motor Group, has also decided to increase prices of products such as steel sheets for cars. The company has yet to determine the new prices, the sources ...
