Francoise Brung is a young Parisian mother raising her three children in Dublin. She has lived here for 18 years, is married to an Irish man and loves her adopted country. But she has no wish to grow old here.
Once she reaches retirement age, Francoise, an administrator, plans to pack up and return home to France because she does not have faith in the Irish health system to look after her at a time when she will need it most.
This week, the Taoiseach poured scorn on a new survey which ranks France as the most consumer-friendly healthcare system out of 26 countries and Ireland a shameful second last.
The 2006 Euro Health Consumer Index, drawn up by the Swedish-based Health Consumer Powerhouse (HCP) looked at patients' rights and information, waiting times for treatment, treatment outcomes, generosity of the healthcare system and the availability of medicines.
