THE European Commission stepped up pressure on credit card company MasterCard yesterday, saying its inter-bank charge may violate EU antitrust rules.
Europe's top antitrust watchdog said it had sent a supplementary statement of objections (SO) to the company on June 23. This was a preliminary document and the Commission had yet to decide if MasterCard had broken EU rules, it said.
MasterCard confirmed it had received the statement of objections.
