A NEW era in the Irish electricity market will kick off today with the official launch of Eirgrid, the company set up to take over operation of the national electricity transmission system.
The electricity transmission system, often termed the national power grid, delivers electricity in bulk to all regions of Ireland.
The new company, which was set up in order to comply with EU competition law, will officially take charge of the transmission system from today.
