Chocolate Arousal
Chocolate can trigger a conflicted reaction. When viewing it for a scientific study, women who identified themselves as high cravers reported an increase in positive feelings, such as security and satisfaction, but also negative ones, such as depression and anxiety. Meanwhile, they exhibited changes in heart rate and sweating as if they were responding to erotic images, but their blinking sped up, which is common when looking at images that are unpleasant. Although chocolate represents pleasing taste and comfort, says study coauthor Antonio Cepeda-Benito of Texas A&M University, its association with weight gain may also give rise to guilty feelings.
