SIR: The Peter Coleman-Frank Devine interview in your May issue was interesting, and taught much about the early days of Quadrant. However, I should like to correct Coleman's recollection on a couple of points touching myself.
Robert Manne did not "do a lot of work" on my Manning Clark essay of September 1993. Its published form reproduces my manuscript almost verbatim.
The Age did not "drop me" because of Clark. On the contrary, Michael Gawenda, then Age features editor, gave the matter great and continuing prominence. The Age's street poster of August 26, 1993, read: "MANNING CLARK'S WORK CANNED".
