When it comes to the issue of using male practice players with female athletes, both sides seem to have something to smile about these days.
Those who favor the practice are relieved that not much has changed since the issue came into the spotlight two years ago. Those who oppose it think that change may be on the horizon.
In 2005, the NCAA's Committee on Women's Athletics (CWA) determined that the use of male practice players conflicted with its mission of providing equitable opportunities for female student athletes. They did ask that the issue be studied at both division and institutional levels.
