Jun. 18--The public wins the peace. Southwest wins the prize. And American wins the compromise. That's my take on last week's landmark deal to end the Wright fight and put a stop to an exhausting dispute dividing our cities, airlines and airports. There's something for everyone to like and decry in this agreement, including the little guy. You can quibble with the details, and I will in a moment, but you can't overstate the overarching achievement. Finding a compromise on this subject -- and doing away with Wright -- seemed simply beyond our collective reach. Herb Kelleher was only half-joking when he asserted Thursday that if we could solve Wright, there was hope for world peace. For three decades, the Wright Amendment has embittered people on all sides, and their entrenched positions left almost no chance for common ground.
