Jun. 16--It might seem to some that Continental Airlines is spending money like a drunken aviator lately.
The top carrier at Newark added 10 more Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners to its order sheet this month, for a total of 20. At the same time, it ordered a couple dozen New Generation 737s. Deliveries of the updated 737s begin in 2008 and Dreamliners begin arriving in 2009.
Many of the planes will replace older aircraft for the Houston-based carrier, which is trying to expand its way back to profitability as some rivals have reduced their fleets while reorganizing in Chapter 11.
Continental has ordered more Dreamliners than any other U.S. carrier. Boeing said 27 carriers around the world have ordered 383 of them so far. The first one is...
