Living In Space

Who Wants to Live in Space?

We all know what it's like to live on earth. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in space? Can you think of any reasons why living in space might be a difficult challenge (chal-lenge)? Take a deep breath and think hard. Breathe Deep

Oops! I may have just given away one of the answers. Did you take a deep breath? Human beings can't live without air. We breathe in oxygen (ox-y-gen) which is necessary to keep the cells of our bodies alive and healthy. Oxygen is missing in space. If you have seen pictures of astronauts (as-tro-nauts) working outside a spacecraft, then you will have noticed that they carry a large pack on their backs. This pack contains oxygen for them to breathe. When they are inside the spacecraft, oxygen is pumped in so they can move about and breathe just as if they were on earth.

But, wait a minute. Think of those pictures of astronauts in space. They don't really move around the same as they would on earth. They float! Why? Gravity (grav-i-ty) is the pull that the earth has on everything. It keeps our feet on the ground and prevents our hats from flying off our heads. In space, there is no gravity. Does...
