If movies have taught us anything, it's to beware of mysterious strangers. Equal parts thriller and allegory, The King stars Gael Garcia Bernal as Elvis Sandow, a charismatic

ex-Navy man who goes to Corpus Christi, Texas,

to reconnect with his birth father, David Sandow (William Hurt), a onetime free spirit who years ago abandoned him and

his now-deceased Mexican mother. But David has become a Baptist minister and doesn't exactly rejoice in this walking reminder

of his sinful past. Spurred by rejection, Elvis begins insinuating himself into Dad's new life, seducing the preacher's sixteen-

year-old daughter, Malerie
