OK, here's the scene: The National Football Foundation is honoring Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden and has set up a conference call. I get on thinking I'll get a few laughs from the two most outspoken coaches in the game.
After a few classics--Paterno on computers: "They go in there and push a couple of buttons, and every off-tackle play is on the screen. I don't know what the hell that does for anybody."--Bowden comes up with this serious, all-telling statement of the world today: "Have boys changed? No, they haven't. Parents have changed. They aren't raising their kids the way they did 40, 50 years ago."
