UNIT ANALYSIS Cornerbacks

A Champ Bailey is the best. Domonique Foxworth and Darrent Williams are rising.

A- Nate Clements and Terrence McGee have great speed and ball skills.

B+ Ike Taylor and Bryant McFadden are developing into a tough, athletic duo.

B Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle can cover one-on-one but aren't steady vs. the run.

B Tory James (2004) and ballhawk Deltha O'Neal ('05) are recent Pro Bowl picks.

B Gary Baxter is a better than average No. 1 corner, and Leigh Bodden is on the rise.

B Dunta Robinson, Demarcus Faggins and Phillip Buchanon should improve in new "D."

B Nick Harper and Jason David are coming off solid years. Marlin Jackson is emerging.

B Rashean Mathis has star potential. Brian Williams has to show he's worth big money.

B Will Allen and Andre Goodman are upgrades; Will Poole's return will help.

B. Andre Dyson, David Barrett and Justin Miller aren't elite players but form a solid trio.

B- Pacman Jones and Reynaldo Hill are very talented--but very young.

C+ Nnamdi Asomugha and Fabian Washington are promising but inexperienced.

C Patrick Surtain is fine at one spot. Another starter must be identified, however.

C Asante Samuel would be better in the slot. Ellis Hobbs still has a lot to learn.

C Drayton Florence and Quentin Jammer are improving, but the big plays are missing.

RAIDERS coach Art Shell believes in featuring his lead back heavily in his game plans each week and is trying to identify the best plays for RB LaMont Jordan. Under Norv Turner, Jordan's role often changed, and the team didn't have a go-to running play for crucial situations. ...

The TITANS have asked Gs Benji Olson and Zach Piller, who have played at close to 330 pounds in recent years, to trim to the 310 range. The team hopes that will help them reach defenders in space and recover against pass-rush moves. ...

TEXANS KR Jerome Mathis could miss the first five weeks of the season while recovering from surgery...
