The next home run milepost for Barry Bonds now that he has passed Babe Ruth. Hank Aaron hit 733 for the National League record; his final 22 came as a DH with the Brewers. Because of his bad wheels, Bonds might opt for DH work after this season. He's on a pace to finish the 2006 season with 731.
ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS
RHPs Luis Vizcalno and Brandon Lyon have had heavy workloads so far this season, but those should lessen a bit. That's because RHP Brandnn Medders has regained his 2005 form and again can be trusted to pitch in key situations.... After he began hitting the 90s with his fastball, RHP Kevin Jarvis was called up from Class AAA and will pitch in long relief.... It won't be long before RHP Dustln Nlppert is a fixture in the big leagues. He has a plus fastball and power curve. The club has him working on holding runners better at Class AAA. SEE A DIFFERENT GAME: C Johnny Estrada has been better than expected on defense, including in his ability to call a game. Estrada has done a nice job blocking balls and learning the pitching staff's strengths and weaknesses. He has helped make RHP Brandon Webb less predictable by calling for pitches other than the sinker early in the game.--Steve Gilbert
COLORADO ROCKIES
Manager Clint Hurdle made 2B Jamey Carroll the leadoff man and dropped CF Cory Sullivan to seventh. Hurdle says Sullivan, who is prone to striking out, eventually can lead off, but he wants him to develop more patience down in the lineup.... RHP Sun-Woo Kim was activated and placed in the bullpen, which gives the team more flexibility. K]m can swing into the rotation when needed.... 2B Luis Gonzalez was put on the D.L because of a goutlike condition that results in joint inflammation. The cause is unknown. The final straw came when he left a recent game because of inflammation in both wdsts. Class AAA OF Ryan Spilborghs took his roster spot. SEE A DIFFERENT GAME: RHP Byung-Hyun Kim expects to have better movement on his slider soon. Injuries (hamstring, thumb) have been a problem, but he has better fastball velocity this season. His thumb, which is getting better, has kept his slider from being sharp.--Thomas Harding
