Tom Glavine was a young Brave during the final 3 1/2 seasons Dale Murphy spent in Atlanta, and he was quite taken with the quiet, unassuming gentleman who twice had won the National League Most Valuable Player award. To this day, Glavine speaks of Murphy with unabashed reverence and respect.
Now Glavine is nearing the end of his career. If he plays next season with the Mets and then retires, he will have played 3 1/2 seasons with a player who, he says, is the 21st century equivalent of Murphy--David Wright.
