On interleague play
I was absolutely against it when it started. I said, "Well, I'm a traditionalist, and this is not the way it's supposed to be." I've kind of done a 180. I think in certain markets it's terrific. It's great in New York--both the Yankees and Mets having good ballclubs. It works perfectly in Chicago for the baseball fan. Cubs-White Sox ... how good is that? Indians and Reds--that's a natural. When there's a natural rivalry--and especially with older franchises--I think it works great.
On winning 300 games
It's a magical and very important number. You're going to have to play 20 years and average 15 wins to get there. You're going to have to love the game to the core of its soul--and I'm talking about the travel and all the time away from home and family--and stay 20 years. There are those kinds of people, like Greg Maddux. Are there others out there? I thought Kerry Wood and Mark Prior were two guys who had a chance to do it. But you're not going to get there if you sustain injuries that are really significant.
