So FAR, the counter-attacks against The Invention of Terra Nullius and its author, Michael Connor, have raised more questions than they have answered.
In the Weekend Australian of February 25, Deborah Hope reviewed counter-attacks from academics and the former chief justice of the High Court who had presided over the Mabo case, Anthony Mason. In a rare interview, Mason tried to shrink the importance of the terra nullius issue down to a "quibbling point", arguing that terra nullius occupies only a few of the 160 pages of the Mabo judgment. But he didn't contradict Connor's count of over forty references to terra nullius in that judgment--one for every four pages. ...
