Color Safe

Color Safe

We agree that change can be good, but it doesn't always have to be major. L'Oreal Paris Natural Match Color-Calibrated Creme gives

hair color a subtle, believable boost. When selecting a shade, first match your natural color to the swatch pictured on the box. Then, based on your desired result, choose from four permanent formulas. The one labeled "natural" enhances hair's own tones, "warmer" means it adds golden highlights, "cooler" ones temper brassiness, and "red" deposits-no surprise here-auburn hues. And unlike ammonia-based dyes that can dry out hair, Natural Match uses ethanolamine, a gentler agent "that allows for subtle shade adjustments

and minimizes damage," says cosmetics chemist Mort Westman.

Bottom Line: The fume-free color neutralized brassy tones caused by the sun without turning our dark hair shoe-polish black or irritating our scalp. But it also left our ends feeling a little bit dry. -MARGARET LEE
