The National Institutes of Health is asking scientists to provide public access to published peer-reviewed articles that result in whole or in part from NIH-funded research.

Under a policy announced Feb. 3, NIH is requesting that authors submit their publication-ready manuscript, including all of the changes resulting from the peer-review process, to PubMed Central (www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov), a digital repository managed by NIH's National Library of Science.

"At the time of submission, the author will specify the timing of the posting of his or her final manuscript for public accessibility through PMC," the policy...
