erformance enhancers are illegal in baseball-but they could help us bat a thousand in the lash arena. New mascaras aim to deliver cleaner, longer-looking lashes with lighter formulas and juiced-up wands. Revlon Luxurious Lengths and Almay Triple Effect use gel polymers to make the color glide on smoothly and resist caking and flaking, says cosmetics chemist Ni Kita Wilson. Avon Daring Definition Mousse has similar polymers, and "contains far fewer waxes than traditional mascaras, making it less likely to clump," says Wilson. Updated delivery systems have also caught our eye: Cover Girl LashExact and Max Factor Lash Perfection (shown) separate and coat lashes evenly with plastic bristles that are "softer and more pliable than their nylon counterparts, and therefore provide a better curling effect," Wilson says.
