New York/Sydney, June 3 (CTK) - The turnout of Czech expatriates in the general elections was relatively high, compared to 2002, though only a fraction of them cast their votes in the polls that have already ended, in view of the time difference, for the Czechs staying in America and Australia. In the Czech Republic, the two-day elections continue on Saturday. Out of the estimated several tens of thousands of Czech eligible voters in the USA, a total of 466, including 116 tourists, turned up at the polling stations in Washington, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. A total of 550 Czech citizens had registered themselves as voters in the USA before the elections. About two-thirds of them really came to cast their vote. The turnout, including the tourists, thus exceeded 80 percent, the Czech consul in Washington, Martin Klucar, told CTK. He said the expatriates' interest in the elections was far higher than four years ago, when they could vote for the first time.
