Johnny Piper of Lamar County, Texas, pursued a suspected bank robber, Michael Hammonds, down a country road. When Hammonds walked, Piper walked. When Hammonds ran, Piper ran. When Hammonds stopped, so did Piper.
The incident started on April 6 when Piper got home from work and learned that a manhunt was taking place in his neighborhood for a bank robber who had been on the run from police for about five hours. The robber was on foot because his truck had lost a tire while negotiating a corner during a high-speed pursuit.
At home, Piper armed himself with a shotgun and locked his vehicles and outside buildings, reported the Paris News.
