From time to time, the London jewelry dealer Wartski mounts exhibitions related to the jewelry and other works by Faberge in which it specializes. The current show, on view from May 10 to 20, is entitled Faberge and the Russian Jewellers. Objects by Faberge play a prominent role, but many other makers are represented as well.
Many of the objects have histories relating to the imperial family. For example, there is a pair of sapphire and diamond dress ornaments that belonged to the Russian czarina Elizabeth Petrovna, the daughter of Peter the Great, which were sold by the Russian government in 1927. Alexander I was smitten with the marchioness of Londonderry and in 1821 gave her a pink topaz (illustrated here) as well as a parure of diamonds and Siberian amethysts; in this exhibition ...
