TAIPEI, June 3 Asia Pulse - President Chen Shui-bian said Thursday his recent proposal to raise the domestic tax rate should not be interpreted as a measure to increase everybody's tax burden.

Chen made the remarks while meeting with a group of legislators of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) at the Taipei Guest House for wide-ranging talks.

Chen's six-point tax reform plan, which was unveiled after a meeting of the Presidential Office Economic Advisory Panel last week, has drawn broadsides not only from the opposition camp but also from his own party.
